If you’ve already made the call and schedule an appointment with your contractor for the first time, you need to know they are someone you can trust. Can he or she take your remodeling dreams and turn them into reality?

Even if you’ve remodeled before, chances are you’re still a little nervous. Although every builder is different, here’s what you can expect during the process:

Consultation

In this phase of the project, you will meet the people who will be managing your project. You will be looking at samples, making choices for flooring, colors and finishes. This will give the remodeling contractor a rough budget and timeframe.

Proposal

Your contractor will prepare a set of plans, a written estimate, and a timeline. To make this happen, they will need to take some measurements. There may be a small cost involved, but it is still not too late to walk away.

Presentation

Before they get started on the project, you and your builder will review the plans one more time. You will make your final choices for materials and finishes. This is your last chance to make any changes.

Contracts

This is the last step before the work starts. The contract will list the start date of the project and every detail including price, location, and a timeline.

Construction

Now it is finally time for construction to begin. Your house will be a bit out of sorts during the project, but, just remember every day will bring you closer to the end. Your dreams will transform into reality right before your eyes. What an exciting time!

When construction is completed, you will walk through project and point out any problems. If you are satisfied with the work, you are ready for the final phase; living in the dream you created.
