At Beattie Development, we want you to live in your dream home. That is why we can either help you find a current home on the market with our Realty Team or build you a custom home from the ground up if you desire something special. Our desire for you to live the Southwest Florida lifestyle you have always dreamed of doesn’t end there, though. Once you select or build your home, you need to actually move in and live there! To truly enjoy your home, you need to get to know your new neighbors and have a friendly relationship with them. Often, making new friends and inviting them over to enjoy your outdoor kitchen and patio area is one of the best parts of your new house! With that in mind, let’s look at a few move-in tips for meeting the neighborhood once your new home is ready for you:
#1 Throw a Porch Party. A house party is a common way of meeting new neighbors, and that’s because it works! You can make it a little more “Florida style” by holding this party outdoors. Let the neighbors know a week or two in advance, then set up some drinks and light appetizers, turn on some music, and let the fun begin.
#2 Take a Walk. Another great way to casually meet your new neighbors is to spend time outdoors, in your yard or by taking a walk around the block. If you have a front porch, use it! You’ll be surprised at just how easy it is to talk to people when they approach you first. This is a great option for those who are a little too shy to host their own party.
#3 Spend Time at the Clubhouse. If your new neighborhood has a community center, pool, fitness center, tennis courts, or clubhouse, this is probably one of the best ways to meet people who live there. You can naturally get to know those who live near you, and they will already be those who have the same hobbies and day-to-day activities as you. Perfect!
#4 Follow Community Rules and Codes. Many of the nicer communities in our area have codes of conduct that residents living among the neighborhood must follow. These force everyone to take care of their homes and surrounding property, which can help keep the appearances and value of the community up. It is imperative if you want to maintain a good relationship with your neighbors that you are aware of and follow these rules. A great initial meeting will quickly be forgotten if you buy a home in an HOA and paint it bright green!
